This piece is named after Gwaihir the Windlord - the greatest of the Great Eagles, best known for dramatically rescuing Gandalf from the imprisonment of Saruman. His keen sight and swift action also saved Frodo & Sam from a fiery fate after the ring was destroyed and Mount Doom erupted.
I wondered where Gwaihir would go during his ‘time off’ and imagined his man-cave/bird-den would be a rather magical, nurturing & peaceful place hidden away.
Blown in clear glass, a layer of white talc glass is applied & melted in, after which a trail of special black glass is spontaneously encircled on top.
